A telegram received this morning announced the death of Dr. Thomas G. Bristor, at his home in Los Angeles, Cal., at 3:30 a.m. today, aged 58 years.
Dr. Bristor was born in Washington County, Pa., in 1837. In 1844 his parents removed to Steubenville, where he studied dentistry. In 1858 he came to Mansfield and practiced his profession here until 1865, when he went to St. Louis, Mo., and engaged in his profession there. In 1872 he returned to Mansfield and in addition to his practice in this city he established branch offices in Shelby, Shiloh, Bellville and Hayesville, which he visited once each month.
Dr. Bristor was a life-long Democrat and in 1886 he was the Democratic candidate for congress in the 14th. congressional district, composed then of Ashland, Huron, Lorain and Richland counties. His opponent was Judge Wickham of Norwalk, whose majority over Dr. Bristor, in a district which was largely Republican, was only 1,071.
On account of failing health Dr. Bristor removed to Los Angeles about three years ago. There he had been afflicted much of the time with heart disease of an apoplectic nature, caused by fatty degeneration, which finally terminated his life.
Dr. Bristor leaves a wife and four children, Fred T. Bristor of this city, Lucile, Fay and Mabel, the daughters being with their bereft mother in Los Angeles.
Later in the same paper ...
Dr. T.G. Bristor's remains have been cremated, at his request, and the urn has been forwarded to this city. Appropriate Masonic memorial services will be held after his ashes arrive. Dr. Bristor is the first Mansfielder to pass through the rites of incineration instead of burial.
